Reflex integration therapy

**ATNR reflex**, or Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex, is a primitive reflex in infants triggered by turning the head to one side, causing the arm and leg on the face side to extend while the opposite limbs flex, resembling a fencing pose. This reflex emerges around 18 weeks in utero, aids birth and early motor development like eye-hand coordination, and typically integrates by 6 months of age. ## How It Works When an infant's head turns left, the left arm extends straight out with the left leg straightening, while the right arm and leg bend inward; the pattern reverses for a right turn. It links head movement to vestibular and visual systems, promoting balance and midline crossing. ## Signs of Retention Persistent ATNR beyond 6-7 months can lead to poor handwriting, dyslexia-like reading issues, coordination problems, balance difficulties, and challenges with bilateral movements or posture. Interventions like physical or occupational therapy help integrate it through targeted exercises.
