Asperger’s Syndrome
Asperger’s syndrome is a neurodevelopmental condition that is part of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
(It is now referred to as Autism Spectrum Disorder – Level 1 in current medical classifications.)
Key features:
• Difficulty with social interaction and understanding social cues
• Challenges in communication (may speak fluently but struggle with conversation rules)
• Restricted or repetitive interests and behaviors
• Preference for routines and sameness
• Sensory sensitivities (sound, touch, light, smell)
Important points:
• Intelligence and language development are usually normal
• No significant delay in speech, but pragmatic (social) language is affected
• Symptoms often become clearer in school-age years
• It is not a disease, but a different way of brain development

• Social skills training
• Speech therapy (pragmatic language)
• Occupational therapy for sensory regulation and daily living skills
• Behavioral and educational support
