Spastic Cerebral Palsy (Spastic CP) is the most common type of cerebral palsy, where muscle tone is abnormally high (spasticity) due to damage in the motor areas of the brain.

What “Spastic” Means
• Spastic = stiff, tight muscles
• Muscles resist stretching
• Movements are difficult, slow, and awkward

Why It Happens
• Injury or abnormal development of the motor cortex -corticospinal tract
• Occurs before birth, during birth, or early infancy
• Brain injury is non-progressive (does not worsen over time)

Key Features of Spastic CP
• Muscle stiffness (especially in arms or legs)
• Limited joint movement
• Scissoring of legs
• Toe walking
• Poor balance and coordination
• Exaggerated reflexes

• Spastic Diplegia – both legs mainly affected (most common)
